Description
  • Evolutionary algorithms are sometimes presented as an universal remedy that is easily applicable to almost any problem and is going to replace traditional techniques. These algorithms are quite often oversimplified and oversold and they real potential isvery often overestimated. Moreover, as a direct output of the so called %22no free lunch theorem%22 it is easy to realise that these algorithms are definitely not and simply cannot be a kind of tool that is applicable immediately and to whichever problem wi thout sufficient understanding the essence of the particular problem. Having understood the nature of the specific problem we might be able to design a hybrid evolutionary algorithm that might be a very competitive one or we might reach a conclusion thatit is not a good idea to employ an evolutionary inspired paradigm. We do believe that there are some very good circumstantial evidences that can help us to indicate potential problems and that is why we are going to describe them in this paper.
