Description
  • Forest fires cause not only sizable economical losses but they also have ecological impacts. It is therefore useful to analyze potential risks of fire ignition to predict them or select areas with a high danger of their ignition. It is possible to apply precautions on these areas, effectively focus fire patrols' observation and to prevent ecological and economical losses in this way. The forest fire risk analysis is a very complex task which requires a great amount of data inputs and operations with them. This amount of analytical operations is very time-consuming when processed manually. The tool uses a classification tree for classification of forest fires ignition. To derive the classification tree, the following factors were taken into account: climatic conditions in the place of fire ignition in the period preceding the fire ignition, stands characteristics, forest typology and population dispersal in the landscape represented by infrastructure elements. On this account, the method of automatic processing in the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop system was chosen. The computerization of the workflow is provided by the Python's script. The final tool is placed in its own toolbox and it has a graphical user interface for an easy data input needed for the classification. One part of the tool is also a textual configuration file. It is possible to change some parameters that affect forest fires ignition classification. This script could be used by forest owners as a tool for evaluating current condition of stand groups in terms of fire ignition danger.
