  • Elimination voltammetry with linear scan (EVLS) was applied to elucidation of electrochemical reduction of herbicide metribuzin (4-amino-6-tert-butyl-3-(methylthio)-1,2,4-triazin-5(4H)-one, MB) at the hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). The protonized form of metribuzin adsorbed on the electrode surface is reduced in several sequential steps in acid and neutral aqueous media. The EVLS functions which conserve diffusion current (I-d) and eliminate the charging (I-c), kinetic (I-k) and perhaps even irreversible (I-n) currents are applicable for analytical purposes and enable to achieve better resolution of current signals in comparison with differential pulse voltammetry. It was demonstrated on determination of metribuzin and deaminated metribuzin in their mixture. Moreover, these EVLS functions minimize the effect of surface active substances occurring in the matrix of natural samples, which are competitively adsorbed on the electrode surface and inhibit the measured voltammetric signal.
