Description
| - The chapter focuses on two Poldauf's projections of clines of categoriality into his theoretical framework, i.e. the cline of passivization and the cline of syntactic levelling. While the three-member cline of passivization ( cf. active - medio-active - passive) emerges from the identification of a transitional element between the active and passive poles of the category of verbal voice, i.e. medio-passive, the cline of syntactic levelling emerges from the extension of the original stratification into the first and second syntactic plans (dealing with structurally indispensable and dispensable elements respectively) - by an additional, i.e. the third syntactical plan, not embedded between the first and second plans but rather attached to them to signal various facets of the individual's concern in the content of communication. Three such facets are discussed as paving the road from syntactic to the text-level analysis: unattached dative, clauses of the %22I suppose%22 type, and expressions of the %22unfortunately%22 type.
