Description
| - Nowadays, it is important that foundries casting production will prove minimum production costs with ensuring the highest possible quality. Primarily this is related to elimination of products defects. One of the main causes of defects is the thermal dilatation of the sands in the molding mixtures. Usually used quartz sands demonstrated discontinuous (no-flowing) thermal expansion which is related to dimensional inaccuracies due to changes in modification of SiO2. Dilatation coefficient reports the dimensional changes after heat exposure. The high values of this coefficient define the utilization of this material for the production of thin-walled and very accurate castings. Thermal expansion of molding mixture is determined by dilatometric method, which records linear changes during analysis time. The result of this measurement is the dilatometric curve. Purity, shape, angularity, grain size, bulk density and micro-dilatation of individual grains influence dilatometric values of sands, which also affect higher value of macro dilatation [1].
