Description
  • Microalloyed steels have been designed to offer better mechanical properties and resistance to brittle fracture than ordinary carbon steels. The purpose was to reduce weight of steel structures, cars and pipelines and increase their resistance to dynamic loads. Chemical compositions of microalloyed steels may differ greatly, depending on their intended use. Microalloyed steels for production of strips or sheets are low-carbon steels (C: 0,05 - 0,20 %) with Mn level of up to 2,0 %. The required mechanical properties are obtained by addition of microalloying elements. They provide finer grain or precipitation strengthening through formation of stable carbides or nitrides. The most frequently used microalloying additions include Nb, V, Ti, Mo, rare earth metals and others. A special steel heat was made in IP4 air furnace for the purpose of this experiment. Specimens with stepped thickness were rolled in TANDEM rolling mill under various thermomechanical conditions.
