Description
  • The investigated Cr-Ni-Si refractory steel recrystallizes quite painfully. Positive influence of a prolonged delay in the furnace coiler before finish rolling on the final austenitic grain refinement and homogenization was proved. The formability of the material under investigation is rather poor which is brought about by numerous microshrinkages filled up by loosely packed plates containing more chromium and less nickel than the matrix. In the course of rolling, the microshrinkages are drawn out and crushed down, giving rise to various defects which may act as initiators of cracks (mainly on the lateral edges of the strip). It was found out that silicon is a basic source of poor hot formability of the investigated refractory steel. The mechanisms acting at that behaviour has been clarified thoroughly.
