| - The aim of the monograph is to present results of the research focused on the evaluation of the functional potential of an area affected by industrial activities. The research resulted in the proposal of a new methodological process, according to which it would be possible to evaluate different types of landscapes affected by anthropogenic disturbances. The main idea of the methodological process is assessing of landscape areas in terms of their ecological, economic and social functions, and comparing values of particular area before commencing any industrial activities and then after their completion. Hierarchy of the monograph involves three sections. The first section provides a methodological basis, the second section involves description of a new methodological process, and the third section presents results of verification of the given process for a specific location. The newly proposed methodological process for the calculation of FUnctional Potential (FUPO assessment) is designed for evaluation of large-scale and small-scale areas disturbed by mining, quarrying, and other industrial activities. The results of evaluation are practically useful, particularly in urban planning and for industrial land owners, potential investors, the public, or for further studies on landscape restoration. The results presented in this monograph are based on research conducted within the defended dissertation work (Lacková, 2012).
