Description
| - Nowadays, we are experiencing a deeper penetration of radio frequency identification technology (RFID) into our daily lives. Retail chains and production companies driven by the worldwide trend are facing the question how to utilize the potentials of this technology and do not stay behind their rivals. RFID offers a large number of benefits such as identification without line of sight, high read range, ability to retrieve multiple objects at once, and more. It is not a big surprise that it seems to be appropriate to use this technology to track the movement of customers in the shopping area. The basic condition for realization of the solution is the emplacement of the RFID tag to the objects physically connected to shoppers. As the most reasonable objects is defined the shopping carts or baskets. It is assumed that the customers in the shopping area usually use the carts or baskets to carry a bulky purchase. This work provides insight into the initial laboratory tests dealing with the possibilities of RFID technology in the field of monitoring the movement of customers in the shopping area. This work deals with this technology in general, then passes into the application level, and also shows the initial experiments confirming the feasibility of proposed solutions.
