| Description
| - This chapter deal with water element in urban structure of Ostrava. The Land-use Plan for Ostrava was produced in 1994. A new version is being prepared, and is expected to reach a consultation phase in the first half of 2012. Let us attempt to summarise briefly the issues in the current Plan that deals with issued to do with water on the Ostrava territory. According to the Land Use Plan it is necessary to hold in reserve the land earmarked for the prospective Danube - Odra - Labe (D-O-L) (i.e. Danube - Odra - Elbe) corridor. This area may be utilised only for temporary activities. The suggested route has of the canal not yet been agreed by the Public Authority. Until all disputes are resolved, the land remains in reserve. The Land Use Plan is also concerned with environmental protection and the improvement of the quality of watercourses by planting and maintaining a green belt of vegetation, maintaining riverbanks by a environmentally friendly methods, revitalising further the river drainage basins, removing old pipe works from watercourses and avoid installing new ones, and to develop riverbanks in a environmentally friendly ways, including planting new vegetation. This article further describes the Danube - Odra - Labe Canal, current projects regarding Ostravas´s watercourses, water sources and water supply for Ostrava region.
