| - It has been reported that solid particles could strongly enhance the mass transfer rate between the gas and liquid phases. In dispersion, this effect might be caused by changes in the interfacial area, in surface layer or in both. To distinguish between these possible causes, experiments were performed in a simplified situation, namely calm liquid level configuration. In previous research on this phenomenon using distilled water as a liquid it was found that majority of particle materials do not affect the mass transfer rate in the batch. However, it was revealed that after solid particles addition diffusion exponent was close to 2/3, which means taht the liquid surface was contaminated by surfactants. The objective of this contribution was to find the effect of nanoparticles on mass transfer of hydrogen and oxygen into electrolyte solution which is known to be more contaminated by surfactants than pure distilled water. The solid particles of aluminum oxide of various sizes were used in these experiments. The absorption of different gases enabled us to determine the dependence of mass transfer coefficients on the diffusivity, which could help to define the state of the liquid surface.
