Description
  • This contribution describes the basics of TD-NMR theory and measurement principles. We present some of the possible applications of TD-NMR on polymers. Amongst these are polymer crystallinity estimation, crystalline and amorphous domain size estimation (lamellar thickness), studying sorption of solvents into polymers, diffusion coefficient estimation, estimation of the degree of polymer branching and cross-linking or studying structural changes with temperature (e.g. the process of polymer softening). TD NMR also allows a relatively complex insight into high-impact polyolefins (copolymers) as data both on copolymer content and morphology (domain sizes and interfacial area) can be obtained. As our laboratory is equipped with AFM microscope, we can compare the TD-NMR and AFM results for high impact polypropylene.
