  • The reaction between tetrathionate and hydrogen peroxide forms a part of some pH-oscillators based on oxidation of thiosulfate. The kinetics of this reaction have been studied using a pH-meter in the pH range of about 8 to 10.5. Experimental data were evaluated by the method of initial reaction rates combined with assumption of instantaneously equilibrated acid-base reactions. The rate-determining step was found to be first order with respect to tetrathionate, hydrogen peroxide and OH- ions concentrations. The waveform of measured pH during the course of reaction indicates that thiosulfate is a probable intermediate, because typical characteristics of obtained time-curves are very similar to those for oxidation of thiosulfate. In the alkaline solution no clear catalytic effect of Cu2+ was observed.

  • Reakce tetrathionanu s peroxidem vodíku představuje nedílnou součást pH-oscilátorů založených na oxidaci thiosíranu peroxidem. Kinetika této reakce v mírně alkalické oblasti (pH 8 až 10,5) byla studována pomocí pH-metru metodou počátečních reakčních rychlostí spojenou s aproximací rychle se ustavujících acidobazických rovnovah. Rychlost oxidace je podle experimentálních dat přímo úměrná součinu koncentrací tetrathionanu, peroxidu vodíku a iontů OH-. Za uvedených podmínek nebyl pozorován žádný dříve uváděný katalytický vliv měďnatých iontů. Charakteristický tvar pH měřeného v průběhu reakce naznačuje, že pravděpodobným meziproduktem oxidace tetrathionanu je thiosíran. (cs)
