Description	In 2009, the institute of security detention as a new measure in relation to dangerous offenders was introduced to the Czech penal law. Its main purpose is to protect public against particularly dangerous offenders with dissocial personality disorder or mental disorder (sexual aggressors, dangerous psychopathic offenders, insane offenders, repeated violent offenders etc.) who are not able or willing to undergo compulsory treatment imposed by the court. The article summarizes findings of the research into the first four years of implementation of this measure in the Czech Republic, explains different legal and practical problems, and describes the way of the application of security detention through the analyses of the full sample of the offenders to whom the new measure was imposed. (en) Im Jahr 2009 wurde das Institut der Sicherungsverwahrung als eine neue Maßnahme zum Umgang mit gefährlichen Straftätern in das tschechische Strafrecht eingeführt. Es ist hauptsächlich darauf gerichtet, die Öffentlichkeit vor besonders gefährlichen Straftätern mit dissozialen Persönlichkeitsstörungen oder sonstigen psychischen Störungen (sexuelle Gewalttäter; gefährliche psychopathische oder geisteskranke Täter; gewaltbereite Wiederholungstäter) zu schützen, die nicht fähig oder bereit sind, sich einer vom Gericht verhängten verpflichtenden Behandlung zu unterziehen. Der Artikel fasst Forschungsergebnisse zur Durchführung dieser Maßnahme in den ersten vier Jahren in Tschechien zusammen, erklärt verschiedene rechtliche und praktische Probleme und schildert die Anwendung der Sicherungsverwahrung aufgrund einer Gesamterhebung der Verurteilten, denen die neue Maßregel auferlegt wurde.
