  • This paper deals with natural frequency analysis which is performed on the frame of INSTRON Electropuls 3000 testing machine. The reason to analyse the frame came from a project which subject are fatigue properties of shape memory NiTiNOL alloy. During fatigue tests, some irregularities were observed on a hysteresis loop. These irregularities occurred only in certain frequency range. The fatigue tests must be performed up to specific frequency limit (7 Hz). When this limit is exceeded the crack of a specimen occurs much earlier than the real fatigue life is. One of the possible explanations of irregularities on hysteresis loops is that a natural frequency of main frame of the testing machine is similar to the testing one. Modal analysis was carried out by an impact hammer KISTLER. Natural frequencies were then extracted from the data gained from impact test. Results show that natural frequencies of the frame are higher than the testing one. Thanks to this test we excluded an influence of natural frequencies of the machine on a testing process and we can focus on searching a solution of the problem elsewhere (clamping, temperature influence, quality of specimen, etc.).
