Description
| - We investigated the influence of the 3 week series of high and low frequency rTMS on the basal brain metabolism in the group of patients with depression and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). In accordance with the neuroimaging data indicating that depressive disorder is connected with decrease brain metabolism and OCD with increased frontal metabolism we applied the low (1 Hz) frequency in OCD and high frequency (20 Hz) in case of depressive disorder. rTMS was applied with 100% of motor threshold measured by standard method using the EMG control. The high frequency was defined as 20Hz, 2 s train and 18 s intertrain interval (the total number of stimuli 1800). The low frequency was defined as 1 Hz (total number of stimuli 900). The total number of rTMS sessions was 15. The psychopathology was measured by the psychometric scales (HAMA, HAMD, Y-BOCS, CGI). 18 fluoro-deoxy-glucose (18FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) was performed before and after the rTMS treatment.
