Description
  • Three hypotheses have been tested to explain the spatial distribution and richness of established non-native fish at large spatial scale, the hydrological networks of the Czech Republic 1) the spatial association of non-native fish with river obstacles 2) the biotic resistance hypothesis and 3) the biotic acceptance hypothesis. Observed relationship between native and non-native species richness is broadly consistent with many continental and regional scale studies on plants and animals including fish, however, to better understand the pattern of biological invasions and fully support the biotic acceptance hypothesis, other determinants of human activity such as fisheries management, determining propagule pressure (i.e. number and frequency of introductions) is likely the most important explanation variable needed in future studies.
