Description
  • The technique of LIBS offers fast, simple, real-time method for elemental analysis. Typical detection limits are on the range of 1-10 ppm. The LIBS analysis involves formation of luminous (micro) plasma on the surface of the analyzed sample by focusing the radiation from a pulsed, fixed frequency laser. The light emitted by the hot plasma is dispersed by a spectrometer and the characteristics emission lines produced by the excited elements as the plasma cools make it possible to determine the elemental composition of the sample within the focus range. The unique feature of diagnostic techniques based on short (ns) or ultra-short (fs) pulses enables laser ablation of samples with a very little collateral damage surrounding the ablated craters. The spatial resolution of the method is basically determined only by the focal-spot size.   • The main contribution of the project in the field of LIBS biological applications is the implementation of such spectrometric method, that utilizes nanosecond laser pulses for fast qualitative and quantitative material analysis with high spatial resolution. The results of the project were published in 5 papers and publicized in 23 presentations on international scientific conferences. (en)
