The essence of the project is an elaboration of the theory-policy interaction model and the subsequent verification thereof. The model whose goal is to explain the existing divergence between economic theory and the practice of economic policy can be described as follows. On the demand side, the self-interested politicians tend to neglect specific theories which propose to curtail their powers, and at the same time, will seek to adapt economic knowledge so as to conform to their goals. On the supply side, self-interested economists will respond to the incentive structure (from the demand side) and thus provide answers conducive to politicians' goals, which may sometimes conflict with the pursuance of truth. This mechanism will tend to bring about a dominance of economists who do not explore real social problems but rather those set by politicians. The second hypothesis states that the non-acceptance of (true) economic knowledge is a consequence of a specific form in which the product is supplied, now. It hypothesize there is no real demand therefore. The goal of the project is also to explore and asses the usefulness of economic explanation. (en)
Cílem projektu je ověřit empirickou relevanci modelu analyzujícího vztah mezi politikou a ekonomií na historickém příkladu Velké hospodářské krize v Německu a dále analyzovat strukturu poptávky po ekonomickém poznání.
