Description
  • In the presented paper, the flocculation behaviour of carbon black in various rubber melts has been investigated. The flocculation process arises during post-mixing stages when aggregates tend to recreate the thermodynamic stability agitated after milling. Consequently, the filler microdispersion deteriorates which could negatively influence performance of rubber goods such as tyres. Therefore monitoring of this process is of high importance. Many researchers have considered the flocculation process in terms of Brownian motion and particulate mobility in the polymer melts by considering the particle diffusion coefficient. This is defined by the Stokes-Einstein relation. Using this relation as well as rheological tests, the effect of the particle size and the matrix viscosity on the flocculation behaviour has been evaluated in this paper.
