Description
  • If voltage is applied to an undercooled melt then changes in electrical current with time will be observed as the system undergoes the phase transition. The origin of such changes is not completely clear. In our presentation we propose a possible explanation of this effect based on nucleation theory. Using the nucleation theory one can find the evolution of a distribution function of clusters with time and, consequently, determine the changes in electrical current. For example, if one supposes that electrical charges of all clusters are approximately equal then the electrical current on later stages of solidification should decrease, since the total number of clusters will not change significantly or will decrease and the mobility of a cluster lowers with the growth of its size
