  • The chromatographic method, which employs Single-Pellet-String Column (SPSC) and takes, via convolution, into account the extra-column effects of the measuring system, can provide consistent transport characteristics of porous solids. These characteristics are constants of the porous medium and are independent of the kind of gases used, as well as of the temperature and pressure. A set of four commercial catalysts was used for testing of the method. Peclet numbers (which characterize interparticle mixing) were determined for a set of inerts (hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, argon) and tracer/carrier gas pairs flowing through a column packed with nonporous pellets. It was confirmed that Peclet numbers determined in a column packed with nonporous particles are applicable for porous packing; this has a positive effect in the transport parameters confidence.
