Description
| - This review provides a brief overview of the variety of carriers employed for targeted delivery used in gene and cancer therapy summarizing advantages and disadvantages of each approach. Particularly, we aim our attention at magnetic particles and particles made from other materials with various surface modification (oligonucleotides, DNA, RNA, siRNA, miRNA, polyethylene glycol, poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)). Moreover, we pay attention to magnetofection as one of the promising approach for gene therapy. Further, we briefly focus on several anticancer agents (paclitaxel, docetaxel, camptothecin, doxorubicin, cisplatin, curcumin, fluorouracil and geldanamycin), antiviral/bacterial agents (peptides, antibiotics, antivirotics) and/or nucleic acids encapsulate in delivery nanotechnology system. The influence of their combination with aforementioned nanoparticulate transporters to their properties such as cytotoxicity, short life time and/or solubility is discussed.
