There are a number of processes that cause deviations from the equilibrium state, which are manifested mainly in the chemical composition and population of excited species. Population distributions of argon atomic and ionic excited states in the supersonic part of a plasma jet expanding from the H2O-Ar dc arc torch into a chamber maintained at a pressure of 10 kPa have been studied by optical emission spectroscopy.
