Description
  • The presentation documents the effects of fertilization of young tree species plantations in the Bohemian-Moravian Highland region, on sites of particular character. There were studied fertilized plantations of European beech, Norway spruce, Sycamore and Giant fir in the 5th to 6th vegetation altitudinal zones. The limestone, amphibolite and the slow-release SILVAMIX fertilizers were tested in the clear-cut and shelter position. The beech reacted very positively on the fertilization, but more favorably on the shelter position. The pure liming caused growth disturbances few years after application because of misbalances in the nutrient cycles. More demanding tree species (beech, sycamore, Giant fir) benefited highly from the fertilization, the climax species, the Norway spruce, re-acted only slightly on the relatively favorable site. Fertilization seems to be a good tool for improvement of plantations in more extreme conditions.
