Description	The adults are rather small (length of body 2.0-5.0 mm), strongly bristled flies, yellow to brownish black, often yellowish brown with a darker pattern. Wings conspicuously pointed, with sexually dimorphic venation in European species. The larvae are saprophagous, microphagous or, probably, mycetophagous, living on the ground amongst wet leaf litter, plant debris and other rotting matter. Adults are common in moist places, alongside streams or ponds and in deciduous forests, and even in dry meadows. For a more detail see Barták (1998). Altogether 13 species are known to occur in Europe 161 (Barták 2007), although the validity of L. vaillanti Zwick, 2004 is doubtful; 9 species have been recorded from Slovakia (Barták 1986, 2006a,b). Hirtherto, no record of Lonchopteridae from the Poľana Mts has been published but 6 species were identified during our recent faunal survey. The voucher specimens are deposited in SMOC.
