| - The family Muscidae includes about 550 species in Europe (Pont & Merz 1998) and 289 of them are known from the Czech Republic (Gregor 1997, Kohoutová 1999, Gregor & Barták 2001b, Gregor et al. 2002, 2003). A monographic treatise on the family was recently published not only for the Czech Republic, but within the scope of the whole Central Europe (Gregor et al. 2002). There was yet no attempt to select species with different degrees of endangerment. The classification and nomenclature of the present list was employed in accordance with the above quoted monograph of Central-European species. The larvae are frequently saprophagous, developing in different decomposing substrates and their last instars are sometimes (not rarely) predacious. In certain groups, this feeding is prevalent for a larger proportion of the larval development. Larvae of other groups are completely predacious and they live in most different substrates (in fungi, excrements of animals, bird nests, soil, decomposing wood, un
