Description	In the study area of the Czech-German borderland, we have observed, in four time periods, the development of different land use types with regard to the changing intensity of both primary and secondary anthropic stressors. The time periods were distinguished by specific economic, social, as well as political conditions: pre-industrial period (1750-1850), industrial period (1850-1950), communist period (1950-1990), and postindustrial period (since 1990 until today). Besides the established standardized methods of analysis and interpretation of the land use changes (primary anthropic stress), we have set together and applied a list of indicators, which is indicative of secondary ecological and social stress. This new method has made possible to find out mutual connections between changes of basic features and the processes characteristic for social subsystem and their impacts on stresses within the ecological subsystem.
