Description
  • The aim of this work was to evaluate different grassland management from the viewpoint of the biomass utilization for its combustion. The small-plot trial in the locality of Rapotín (Czech Rep.) was managed during 2003–2012 with four levels of grassland utilization: intensive, medium intensive, low intensive, and extensive. Four levels of fertilization were applied for each utilization treatment: nil-fertilization, P30K60, N90P30K60, and N180P30K60 (pure nutrients). The effect of intensity of utilization was significant, with decreasing intensity of utilization DM yield increased up to 8.0 t/ha DM (DM = dry matter). Nitrogen fertilization significantly increased DM yield by 63 % compared to unfertilized treatments. The content of crude protein also increased with N fertilisation up to 176.7 g/kg DM (intensively utilised treatment). The ash concentration was higher in the intensively and medium intensively utilised treatments (106.4 g/kg DM on average) than in treatments utilised low intensively and extensively (93.3 g/kg DM on average), whereas the influence of fertilisation was not significant. It can be concluded in our study that the grasslands utilised extensively with one or two late cuts with doses of nitrogen fertilisers were more favourable for combustion.
