Description
  • Measurement of pyrene or perylene fluorescence can be used to study the aggregation of humic acids. Humic acids (HAs) have similar behaviour as micelles, they have hydrophobic interior and hydrophilic exterior. Pyrene or perylene as fluorescent probe can be oriented between associates of HAs or bind into hydrophobic domain in dependence on HAs concentration. Fluorescence spectroscopy allows investigate as behaviour of HAs or determine the presence of hydrophobic domain. For evaluation of emission spectra of pyrene and perylene in systems containing humic substances is used the ratio of relative intensity of fluorescence I1/I3 (pyrene) and I1/I2 (perylene) against molar concentration of probe or HAs.
