Description
  • The Project will endeavour to obtain new findings in the field of transfer phenomena during crystallization and cooling of massive metal systems. Mathematical models of heat and mass transfer during solidification will be established. A new original on-line model of the 3D transient temperature field will analyse the process in real time. This model will be preceded by its off-line version, which must be corrected and verified through experimental measurement on a real system. Both versions will take into account the significant non-linearity of the solution from the viewpoint of the variable thermophysical properties of the materials and boundary conditions. The mathematical model of chemical heterogeneity will analyze selected elements. The on-line model will be unified with the model of chemical heterogeneity and, together, these models will - in real time - control the boundary conditions of the process and, therefore, the character of the transfer phenomena, on which the course of crystallization, the formation of the structure, the occurrence of any potential defects affecting the final material properties will all be dependent. This will make it possible to predict the critical points of the solidifying metal system and its inclination towards defects. (en)
