  • Conceptually, distinguished from epithelial hyperplasia with atypia by unequivocally documented association with invasive carcinoma, such that the terms PIN/HGPIN have similar meaning/implications as in human. Thus far, such invasion has been observed primarily in SV40 early region/large T antigen containing transgenes (and possibly the BK5-IGF1 mouse). In these models, the in situ lesions CAN be distinguished morphologically from mice showing epithelial proliferation with atypia. T antigen models show much more pronounced nuclear atypia, including greater nuclear enlargement and pleomorphism, coarser chromatin, irregular nuclear contours, and higher mitotic and apoptotic rates.MMHCC
