To create the new “tailor-made” medicine of the 21st century it is necessary to analyze differences in genomes of individuals and obtain information on gene expression under various conditions. To reach this goal new methods for DNA and protein analysis have to be developed. It is believed that electrochemical methods can be particularly useful in inexpensive, delocalized parallel DNA analysis. Both the US and Czech groups are among the world leading laboratories in the development of electrochemical DNA sensors. It is expected that their collaboration will result in development of new DNA biotechnologies as well methods of electrochemical protein analysis important for biomedicine. Particular attention will be paid to interfacial properties of proteins playing their roles in cancer and in some neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson´s and Alzheimer´s diseases. (en)
