DEFINITION
  • In Situ Hybridization staining is an immunohistochemistry staining procedure which allows the demonstration of specific nucleic acid sequences (genes) in their cellular environment. The DNA sequence in the host cell is detected by hybridization with a biotin-labeled cDNA probe. Used for detecting protein and gene expression, determining tissue specificity, and localizing genes and proteins within tissue samples.NCI
