Description	The aim of the project is to test hypotheses concerning mechanisms underlying sensitivity of bird and plant communities to forest fragmentation in afromontane environment. Special stress will be laid on complex investigation at several levels of resolution – from factors affecting nesting success through to territorial behaviour and species richness patterns. Specifically, we will focus on testing (1) the relationship between forest fragment characteristics (area, shape and isolation) and species diversity, (2) the role of interspecific competition in structuring of communities in small isolated forest remnants, (3) patterns of nest predation along habitat gradient from forest interior to surrounding matrix. Finding interconnections between plant and bird community patterns will provide insight into general mechanisms driving responses on forest fragmentation. (en) Cílem projektu je nalézt mechanismy způsobující změny ve struktuře ptačích a rostlinných společenstev v souvislosti s fragmentací afromontánních lesů. Hlavní přínos navrhované studie spočívá v komplexním přístupu ke studiu vlivů fragmentace na různé aspekty života ptáků od faktorů ovlivňujících hnízdní úspěšnost přes teritoriální chování po změny v druhovém bohatství. Konkrétně budeme testovat (1) vztah mezi charakteristikami fragmentů (velikost, tvar a izolovanost) a diverzitou společenstev, (2) roli mezidruhové kompetice při utváření společenstev v malých, izolovaných fragmentech (3) rozdíly v míře predace podél gradientu prostředí od středu lesních fragmentů přes jejich okraje do okolní krajinné matrice. Objasnění vztahů mezi rostlinnými a ptačími společenstvy umožní pochopení obecných mechanismů řídích reakci organismů na fragmentaci jejich životního prostředí.
